The private pilot license requirements for Part 61 are necessary to complete 3 hours of cross-country flight and 3 hours of night flying, with 1 cross-country flight of more than 100 nautical miles (NM) and 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop at an airport. I) Three hours of flight training on a glider with an authorized instructor or 10 training flights on a glider with an authorized instructor in the areas of operation listed in § 61.127 (b) (in this part), including at least 3 training flights on a glider with an authorized instructor in preparation for the practical exam within the 2 calendar months preceding the month of the test; and. (iii) A 2-hour cross-country helicopter flight in night conditions consisting of a total straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles from the original starting point; and. The person requesting a private pilot certificate must receive and log on the ground with an authorized instructor or complete a course of study at home on the areas of aeronautical knowledge from paragraph (b) of this section that apply to the category and class of aircraft requested. I) 2.5 hours commanding and maneuvering a gyroplane with reference only to instruments that use a vision limiting device, including flying in attitude with the instruments, partial panel skills, recovering unusual flight attitudes, and navigation interception and tracking systems. Ii) Twenty solo takeoffs and landings to a complete stop (each involving a flight following a traffic pattern) at an airport; and. Except when the FAA approves fewer hours, an applicant for the commercial pilot certificate with aircraft qualification or powerlifting who has completed 190 hours of aeronautical experience is considered to have met the total aeronautical experience requirements of this section, provided that the applicant has successfully completed an approved commercial pilot course under part 142 of this chapter and the approved course was appropriate for the commercial pilot certificate and aircraft qualification requested.
(ii) A solo cross-country flight more than 100 nautical miles in total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points and a segment of the flight at a straight-line distance of at least 50 nautical miles between the takeoff and landing sites; and.
